Day 1. Almaty - Ash-tree wood in Charyn
Transfer to the ash-tree wood in Charyn in the morning (about 250 km). 2 hour
stop for lunch at the Kokpek pass. Short walk in the Sogety mountains near the
Sogety river canyon to get aquainted with day-time fauna:
Araneidae,Theridiidae,Tiitanoecidae. Arrival in the Charyn ash-tree wood in the
afternoon, setting up a camp, dinner. Watching Solpugida and scorpions in the
dark with an ultraviolet lamp near the camp. Sleeping in tents.
Day 2. Charyn ash-tree wood, Charyn river canyon
Morning: breakfast and excursion in the ash-tree wood, watching spiders dwelling
in bedding and reeds (Linyphiidae,Araneidae, Theridiidae,Tetragnathidae). Return
to the camp for lunch. Trip up-stream the Charyn to the mouth of the canyon
(about 20 km). Watching spiders inhabiting dry clay sides of the canyon (Theridiidae,Segestriidae,Palpimanidae).
Return to the camp, dinner. Watching Lycosidae in the dark with a directed
light. Sleeping in tents.
Day 3. Tiitanoecidae, Ulken-Boguty mountains
Morning: breakfast and trip to arid Ulken-Boguty mountains (about 20 km).
Watching spiders in rocky dry hills (Theridiidae,Latrodectur, Tiitanoecidae).
Return to the camp for lunch. Walk to the Charyn to watch prewater Arachnida.
Sleeping in tents.
Day 4-й. Charyn ash-tree wood - Kolsai Lakes
Morning: breakfast, taking down the camp, transfer to the Kolsai river in
Kungei-Alatau mountains (about 200 km). 2 hour stop for lunch in the Kurtogai
tract (Charyn canyon). Arrival at the First Kolsai Lake (1,800 m above sea
level) in the afternoon and setting up a camp. Dinner. Watching forest spiders
living in dense grass (Salticidae, Araneidae, Theridiidae, Philodromidae,
Thomisidae). Sleeping in tents.
Day 5. Kolsai Lakes
Morning: breakfast and riding horses to the Second Kolsai Lake (Mynzholga Lake;
2,400 m above sea level; 10 km). Watching spiders dwelling in pebbles and grassy
areas (Salticidae,Gnaphosidae, Theridiidae,Glubionidae). Lunch at the Mynzholga
Lake. Return to the camp, dinner. Sleeping in tents.
Day 6. Kolsai Lakes - Gorge of the Orta-Merke river
Morning: breakfast, taking down the camp, transfer to the Orta-Merke gorge in
Kungei-Alatau mountains (about 70 km). Setting up a camp near a forrester's
house at the entrance to the gorge, lunch. Walk in the gorge, watching steppe
and forest spiders (Salticidae, Theridiidae, Araneidae, Philodromidae,
Thomisidae). Sleeping in tents.
Day 7. Gorge of the Orta-Merke river - Almaty
Breakfast and return to Almaty (about 330 km). 1-2 hour stop for lunch at the
Kokpek pass.
